Philip Reed received a PhD in psychology and an MS in epidemiology. He also completed a two-year National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in drug dependence epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Reed is Interim Director of the MSU-Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), Director of the Biomedical Research Informatics Core (BRIC), and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Michigan State University . Dr. Reed brings to the Research Advisory Committee a diverse background that includes research programs in psychiatric epidemiology, drug dependence epidemiology, and clinical research informatics; plus 20 years in industry serving as the CEO of three enterprises.
Jana M. Mossey received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, her M.P.H. and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina and her MSN in psychiatric nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mossey is a distinguished professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Drexel University's School of Public Health. Dr. Mossey brings to the Research Advisory Committee a diverse background that includes working as a public health and psychiatric nurse plus she has been instrumental in developing several research initiatives related to the psychosocial health of older individuals.
Mr. Friedman is the Director of Clinical Trials, Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. He has over 30 years of experience in the areas of drug development, regulatory affairs and clinical trials management of both industry and government sponsored clinical trials.
Dr. Wasan is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the Section of Clinical Pain Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in Pain Medicine and completed fellowship training in interventional pain medicine in the Anesthesiology Department at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He is also board certified in psychiatry and completed a residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. In his clinical work, he sees patients at the Brigham and Women's Pain Management Center, a multidisciplinary pain treatment center. He has particular expertise in the psychiatric co-morbidities of chronic pain and in the use of opioids, neuropathic pain medications, psychotropic medications, and interventional procedures.
Dr. Wasan also directs a clinical research program and coordinates the efforts of five other faculty members. This includes clinical trials, qualitative studies, and neuroimaging studies. The Section of Clinical Pain Research is funded from a diversity of sources, such as NIH, industry, and private foundations. Dr. Wasan has published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts. These are in the general area of pain outcomes research, and cover topics such as opioid treatment, CAM treatment, interventional treatments, neuropathic pain assessment, and the impact of psychiatric factors on pain response.
Dr. Davis has over 27 years of experience as a community-based pain medicine physician. He has clinical expertise in the development of evidence-based, patient-centered individual and population health products that have applications in care management systems across treatment settings. In this capacity, he has been an advocate for integrating IT systems for quality measures in the field of pain medicine.
In 1994, Dr. Davis co-founded ProCare™ Systems, Inc., which is a medical practice management organization serving a network of practices and supporting allied health companies throughout Michigan. He is actively involved in multicenter epidemiological and clinical effectiveness research and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Davis received his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado and his medical degree at Rush University. He is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
Mark Gostine, MD, is president of Michigan Pain Consultants, the largest pain management practice in the state of Michigan. He has been in pain management since 1983, and during his career he has made more than 100,000 patient visits.
In 2005 Dr. Gostine published a study linking low levels of vitamin D to chronic pain. He has also conducted studies on the management of neuropathy with nutritional agents. Dr. Gostine presented a study of over 39,000 patients that examined the interplay between sun exposure, lifestyle, and the incidence of pregnancy-induced hypertension to the American Society of Clinical Nutrition. To date, his study is the largest outcome study of this nature done in North America. In addition, along with Fred N. Davis, MD, he started ProCare™ Systems to develop systems to analyze pain management outcomes. There are currently more than 30,000 patient outcomes in the company's database.
Over 10 years ago, Rebecca took on the newly created role of Director of Systems Development and Research for ProCare™ Systems, our parent company. She has provided leadership for several clinical initiatives focused on quality of care, patient satisfaction, staff education, and regulatory compliance as well as business projects related to purchasing and facilities.
As a director for ProCare™ Research, Rebecca brings strong organizational and project management skills to the team. Rebecca has a bachelor's degree in nursing from Grand Valley State.
